Dodge Hornet: An Electric Version with 1070 Horsepower

When it comes to a power output of over 1000 horsepower, the last vehicle one would expect to discuss from Stellantis is the Dodge Hornet. Perhaps that’s why the group specifically chose this model for its latest experiment.

Dodge has decided to take on the Nitrocross Series competition, and the Hornet SUV was selected to participate. The Dreyer and Reinbold Racing team will drive this heavily modified vehicle for the 2024-2025 season.

An Electric Powertrain

Forget the standard or even the plug-in hybrid version, as the Dodge Hornet participating in the Nitrocross series is fully electric. For this, not one or two, but four electric motors were fitted to the American manufacturer’s SUV. These motors boast a combined power of over 1070 horsepower, which is remarkable. In fact, this allows the Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.4 seconds, a figure that could make most sports cars on the market blush, including exotic cars. The accelerations are so powerful that they can generate a force of 2 Gs.

What is Nitrocross?

We know Formula 1 and the NASCAR Series, but there are dozens if not hundreds of different racing categories. Nitrocross is a relatively recent series, created in 2020 by the famous rally driver Travis Pastrana. In summary, the event is a car race that takes place on a track similar to a motocross course. This means dirt and several jumps are part of the challenge, making it quite impressive, I must say.

A Great Publicity Move

Dodge is a brand associated with performance thanks to models like the Charger, Challenger, and Durango. Unfortunately, the lineup is set to change radically in the coming years, and I believe this is why the Hornet was chosen to participate in the Nitrocross race. This way, the brand maintains a presence in a high-level competition, and who knows, maybe this will help further popularize the model if it succeeds in this competition.
